The Omaha baseball team opens its on-campus ballpark this weekend with a three-game series vs. Creighton. First pitch on Friday and Saturday at Tal Anderson Field is set for 3 p.m. while Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Gary Sharp will have the radio call on 1180 The Zone for Friday's home opener. Links to live stats and video are available on OMavs.com.
 
Parking access is in Lot 26 across the ballpark while food and beverages will be available in the concession stand.
 
Leading Off
  • The Mavericks are 3-3 on the season after splitting a two-game set at No. 22 Oklahoma and a four-game series at SEC foe Missouri last weekend in Columbia, Mo.
  • Chris Esposito leads Omaha at the plate this season, hitting .450 with a triple, three homers and 11 RBI and six runs scored.
  • Brett Bonar is second on the team with a .364 batting average while Masen Prososki is hitting .333 with a team-high four doubles this season.
  • Josiah Scott is 2-0 n the season with a pair of relief appearances for the Mavericks on the mound. Scott has struck out four batters and has yet to give up a run in 3.0 innings of work.
  • As a team, Omaha is hitting .246 with 48 runs, 51 hits, 13 doubles, three triples and six homers this season.
  • Head coach Evan Porter is in his fifth season at the helm of the Maverick baseball program.
Scouting the Creighton Bluejays
The Bluejays come into the weekend with a 2-2 record after opening the 2021 campaign against Lipscomb and Belmont in Nashville last weekend. Junior David Webel was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after going 9-of-16 at the plate with three doubles, three RBI and four runs scored in the season-opening weekend.
 
Dylan Tebrake is 1-0 on the mound after tossing 5.0 innings in an 11-4 season-opening victory over Lipscomb. Tebrake allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out six batters. John Sakowski is 1-0 on the season with 3.1 innings of work in two appearances.
 
As a team, the Bluejays are hitting .281 with 27 runs, 36 hits, nine doubles and four home runs in four games. The Creighton pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.80 with 32 strikeouts while allowing 17 runs, 16 earned, on 30 hits in 30 innings.
 
Walk this Way!
Sophomore Ryan Doran drew a career-high five walks while going 0-for-1 at the plate in the series-opening 12-10 loss at Missouri last weekend in Columbia, Mo. The five walks are tied for the most drawn by a Maverick in the Division I era. The last Maverick to be issued five walks in a single game was Colby McCord vs. LIU Brooklyn on March 15, 2012.
 
Scoring in Bunches
Through the first two weekends of the season, Omaha has manufactured runs at the plate in bunches. The Mavericks have scored a total of 48 runs this season in 17 different innings. Of those 17 innings, Omaha has scored 3+ runs eight times, including 33 of its 48 runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
