DES MOINES, Iowa – The Omaha track & field team put up a number of lifetime bests at the Blue Oval Invitational at Drake on Saturday.
Senior
Scarlett Hill led the parade with a lifetime best of 12.33 in the 100 meters, good for second place. She followed that up with a best in the 200 meters of 25.67, also placing her second.
Also in the 100,
Carrie Simonson finished third with a season-best time of 12.36. She also was third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.80.
Nina Cuevas took fifth with a time of 12.67.
The Mavericks got two lifetime bests in the 800 meters.
Maya Nachtigal finished fourth in a time of 2:23.05.
Paige Blackford was right behind with a time of 2:24.88, good for sixth and five seconds off her previous best.
Lori Vedder finished second in the javelin with a season-best mark of 120-02.
Lucy Turner was third with a lifetime best throw of 90-06.
In the discus, Turner finished eighth, leading a group of three Mavericks with a throw of 118-07.
Kinsey Scheffler was ninth with a lifetime best of 114-09, 12 feet farther than her previous best. Vedder was 10th at 102-06.
"Overall, I was pleased with the way we competed today," said assistant coach
Jill Sutton. "We had several athletes post personal bests and a few others come very close. We are excited to get back to practice as we still have work to do. Our athletes are focused on that process."
In other events,
Roxy Denton and
Kylie Johnson finished 1-2 in the 100 meter hurdles with times of 16.05 and 16.48 respectively.
In the long jump, Denton was second with a mark of 16-02 ½ while Johnson was third at 16-00 ¼.
In the 1,500 meters,
Joanna Topham took fourth in a time of 4:53.89 while
Danielle Howard was ninth in a time of 5:12.96.
The Mavericks are at South Dakota next Saturday, April 3, for the USD Early Bird. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
