Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mavericks Blank Panthers 2-0 For Fifth Straight Win

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team picked up its fifth straight win, shutting out Eastern Illinois 2-0 for the second straight game at Caniglia Field.

The Mavericks got a goal in each half and three saves from Jeremy Pollard to improve to 5-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the Summit League.  The Panthers fell to 0-6-2 overall and 0-5-2 in the league.

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks controlled the game from the outset.  In the 12th minute, Tevin Rochester chased down a ball in the 18-yard box but was run into by EIU goaltender Jonathan Burke, leading to a penalty kick.  Nil Ayats lofted the ball over Burke as he dove to his left, earning his fourth goal of the season.
  • In the second half, the Mavericks were awarded a free kick from just outside the top of the 18-hard box.  Kenji Mboma Dem fired the ball inside the top corner for his second goal in as many games in the 58th minute.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Mavericks had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks in the match.
  • Overall, the Mavericks had a 13-5 edge in shots attempted.
  • The Mavericks have won all five games at Caniglia Field, their best start at home since 2015 when they won their first six.  Omaha has one home game remaining this season.
  • The Mavericks have now posted four shutouts this season.
Coach Speak
"Fantastic performance by Mitch and Nil, and a beautiful free kick by Kenji," said head coach Bob Warming.  "We have so many players who can get goals for us.  It's a problem for other teams.  The back line continues to grow and develop and eliminate real chances, and the six men in front of them allow opponents very little time or space in critical areas.  This team is coachable and continues to evolve and work hard.  I'm very proud of them."

Up Next
The Mavericks will play their next three on the road beginning at Kansas City on Thursday, March 25 at 5 p.m.
