COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Omaha track & field team began the outdoor season with the first day of competition at the Mizzou Spring Opener on Friday at Missouri.
"This was a good first day of the meet and good start to the season," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "Considering we haven't stepped foot into an outdoor track, I was really pleased with the performances today. Tomorrow should be exciting."
Senior
Lori Vedder led a group of four Mavericks in the javelin. She placed seventh with a throw of 116-07.
Also in the throws,
Kinsey Scheffler finished 12th in the hammer throw with a toss of 131-05.
Lucy Turner was 15th with a mark of 109-03.
In other field events,
Roxy Denton finished ninth in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 16-08.
Taylor Ramaekers was 10th with a mark of 16-05, and
Kylie Johnson took 11th with a jump of 16-03 ¾.
In the 1,500 meters,
Joanna Topham led a group of seven Mavericks with a time of 4:53.43, good for 15th place.
Maya Nachtigal took 18th in a time of 4:59.47.
Emily Robles and
Paige Blackford finished 26-27 in a time of 5:08.95 and 5:09.34, respectively.
Danielle Howard was close behind, coming in 29th in a time of 5:11.45.
The final day of the meet begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
