No. 1 UND Scores Late To Edge No. 11 Mavericks, 4-2

OMAHA, Neb. – No. 1 North Dakota got three power play goals including one late to pull ahead for good in a 4-2 win over the No. 11 Omaha hockey team on Friday at Baxter Arena.

The game was the Mavericks' last home game of the season and dropped them to 13-9-1 overall and 13-9-1-3-0 (1) in the NCHC, putting them fourth.  The Fighting Hawks, who have won three straight against the Mavericks, improved to 18-4-1 overall and 18-4-1-2-0 (0) in the conference.

Inside the First Period
The Fighting Hawks opened the scoring at 7:29 when Mark Senden scored a power play goal off a scramble in front of the Omaha net.

Inside the Second Period
The Mavericks tied the game just 27 seconds into the period.  Kevin Conley scooped up a loose puck, charged the length of the ice and got a shot on goal.  Brock Bremer followed the play and poked the rebound past goaltender Adam Scheel for his sixth goal of the year.

But UND retook the lead on its second power play when Jake Sanderson scored at 8:41.

Inside the Third Period
The Mavericks knotted the game again late in the period.  Martin Sundberg grabbed the puck out of the air and was able to fire off a shot in tight.  The rebound skittered to Jack Randl who slid it past Scheel to make it 2-2.

But just 50 seconds after the goal, UND got another power play, and Jasper Weatherby scored 35 seconds in for the eventual winner.

Judd Caulfield added an empty netter at 19:48.

Isaiah Saville stopped 33 shots for the Mavericks while Scheel turned aside 30 for UND.

The two teams will close the season on Friday, March 5 in Grand Forks, N.D.
