CONWAY, Ark. – The Mavericks opened the Michelle Short Memorial Classic with two games Thursday. Omaha played host school Central Arkansas in the opener. The Bears took a 9-1 win in six innings. In game two of Thursday's action, Omaha played Arkansas-Pine Bluff and recorded its first win of the year. The Mavericks run-ruled the Lions, 8-0.
With the split, Omaha improves to 1-5 on the year.
Game One: Central Arkansas 9, Omaha 1 (6 innings)
How It Happened
- The Mavericks put the first run on the board today in the bottom of the second inning. Lexi Burkhardt hit a solo homer to give Omaha a 1-0 edge.
- Central Arkansas responded in the bottom of the second. Tylar Vernon and Mary Kate Brown got on base early with singles and would both score later on a double from Jenna Wildeman. The Bears added another late in the inning after Kaylyn Shepherd was hit by a pitch. Tremere Harris crossed the plate and UCA took a 3-1 lead into the third.
- Allison Helton led off the fourth inning with a single through the left side for Omaha. Diana Murtha got her to second with a sac bunt. Sydney Ross singled to right field with two outs putting Helton at third, but the Mavericks couldn't convert and both were left on base.
- The Bears retaliated with four hits in the bottom of the fourth forcing an Omaha pitching change. Kamryn Meyer came in for relief and faced only one batter before Hill blasted a three-run homer to left field. UCA tallied two more hits before the end of the inning and jumped out to a 6-1 lead.
- Hill struck again in the bottom of the sixth with another homer. This time she sent it to left center and tallied two RBI scoring herself and Shepherd. Erin Blackburn sent a double to left field and scored the final run of the game after a single from Gabi Scott. The Bears won 9-1 in six innings Thursday morning.

- The Mavericks recorded four hits in Thursday's meeting with Central Arkansas. Lynsey Tucker, Helton, and Ross all made it on base with single-base hits. Burkhardt tallied Omaha's first homer of the season.
- Burkhardt's homer would go down as the fifth of her career. The last one she hit was in May 2019 against Western Illinois.
- Tucker has notched a hit in every game this season and is on a five-game hitting streak.
- Sydney Hampton made the start in the circle and falls to 0-3 on the year. Meyer came in for relief in the fourth.
Game Two: Omaha 8, Pine-Bluff 0 (5 innings)
How It Happened
- Omaha wasted no time in the second game of Thursday's action. Izzy Eltze made her second start batting in the no. 2 spot. Eltze hit her first career triple in the bottom of the first and tallied a run early for the Mavericks.
- Jamie White and Allison Helton added another two runs on the board in the first. Helton doubled to right field scoring White, while Lexi Burkhardt singled through the right side to score Helton.
- Emily Klosterman led off the second inning with a triple, while Eltze kept her momentum from the first going with a two-run homer two batters later. Diana Murtha joined the multi-base hitting with a double that sent another run across the plate.
- The Mavericks made it an 8-0 game in the second inning after Sydney Ross tallied the final RBI of the game scoring Burkhardt.
- Remington Martinez lined a double down the left field line in the top of the fifth, but Omaha held on to run-rule Pine Bluff, 8-0.
