KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Omaha men's soccer opened the 2020-21 slate on the road Monday afternoon at Kansas City. The Mavericks struck first but gave up three unanswered goals falling to the Roos, 3-1.
With the loss, Omaha falls to 0-1-0 to start this season's action.
How It Happened
- Both teams came out of the gates on the offensive attack. Ed Port fired the first of the game just 12 minutes into action. The Roos forced Jeremy Pollard to make a big stop in goal less than two minutes later on the opposite end of the pitch.
- The mavericks would get off one more, while the Roos would take three more prior to the first goal of the match. Hugo Kametani connected for Omaha and netted his first career-goal with the team. Stevie Siy sent a pass into the box from the right wing. Kametani made a diving play heading the ball into the back of the net putting Omaha up 1-0 at the 27:47 mark.
- Hugo Gutierez tied the game 1-1 five minutes later for UMKC on an assist from Gustavo Murtha.
- The Roos took the lead less than 30 seconds into the second half when Dennis Mensah sent a shot high and to the left, Jony Munoz tallied the assist.
- Munoz would get on the board in the 59th minute on a penalty kick extending the lead to 3-1 for UMKC.
- Nil Ayats got a good look in the 64th minute in an attempt to chip away at the lead. He sent one to the low left that was stopped by Cooper Clark in goal. It marked the final UNO shot on goal and UMKC would win the match, 3-1.
