How It Happened
  • The Mavericks didn't need much more than six minutes to end Saturday's match as that's all it took for Ed Port to put Omaha up 1-0 in the first half. Port beat a defender inside the low left of the box and used his left foot to send one high over the keeper. Nil Ayats tallied an assist on the goal.
  • Less than two minutes later, Omaha struck again. This time Ayats sent the ball from just past midfield into the top right of the box. Hugo Kametani used two touches to tame the ball before sending it to the low left. Mavericks led 2-0.
  • In the 22nd minute of play, Omaha sent the ball to Stevie Siy in the bottom right of the box. Siy fired a shot that was stopped by the Creighton goalkeeper, but Kametani gave chase and scored his second of the game on the rebound.
  • Creighton took two shots on goal in the final seven minutes of the half, but Jeremy Pollard made both stops. Mavericks led 3-0 at the break.
  • After the break, the Bluejays ramped up the offensive attack and out-shot the Mavericks 6-3 in the final 45. Creighton failed to get one of those shots on goal, and Omaha held on to the 3-0 shutout win.

Coach Speak
"This match was a win for the soccer fans in our community," said head coach Bob Warming. "It was so wonderful to have an outdoor event that people could get outside and experience. I'm really happy for our players. They haven't played a real match on our field in 483 days. That's a long time to have anything you love taken from you. We are excited to be back here this weekend for our conference home openers."
