Women's Tennis Topples UNI, 5-2

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Mavericks hit the road this weekend for a couple of matches at Northern Iowa. Omaha took a 5-2 win over UNI in Saturday's contest after capturing the doubles point and four singles points.

With the win, the Mavericks improve to 4-3 on the year.

"Great matches up and down the lineup," said head coach Adam Summitt. "The players really stepped up today and played at a much higher level than we did last time out. A few players played really well considering some of the injuries they are battling. They just found a way to compete and not give up. Looking forward to another match with UNI tomorrow."

Omaha picked up the doubles point after winning all three matches. Ines Absisan and Madison Gallegos won the No. 1 spot, 6-3. Marie Kapelevich and Natalie Lorentz won the No. 2 spot, while Colby Kelley and Brooke Covington took the win at No. 3. Both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles ended with 6-2 scores.

The Mavericks took four of the six singles matches Saturday. In the No. 1 spot, Gallegos fell to Emma Carr, but Omaha would get a point in No. 2, 3, and 4 singles. Absisan defeated Madeline Doherty in the No. 2 spot, 6-2 and 6-4. Lorentz picked up a point in No. 3 singles downing Thaissa Moreira, 6-2 and 6-3. In the No. 4 spot, Kapelevich beat Valentina Caro for another point, 6-3 and 6-4.

Kelley would fall at the No. 5 singles as the Panthers picked up their second point of the match. But in the No. 6 spot, Lily Tiemeyer won, 6-4 and 6-0, over Sullivan. The Mavericks won 5-2.

Omaha and UNI will return to action Sunday morning for another match in Cedar Falls. It is set to begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
