Mavericks Fall 55-47 in Tough Battle at Kansas City

KANSAS CITY -- The Omaha men's basketball team saw a second-half lead slip away Saturday night, falling 55-47 to Kansas City at the Swinney Center.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Ayo Akinwole was the Mavericks' lone double-figure scorer, finishing with a team-high 16 points alongside five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
 
La'Mel Robinson added eight points.
 
Leaders for Kansas City
Josiah Allick led the Roos with a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds, adding five assists and a steal. Brandon McKissic joined him in double figures with 17 points and five boards.
 
Team Stats
Kansas City shot 47.6% (20-of-42) for the night, while Omaha finished at 34.0% (17-of-50). The Roos had a 33-29 rebounding advantage.
 
Inside the First Half
Akinwole shouldered the load early, hitting 4-of-6 from the field to start for 12 points in the opening 20 minutes.
 
An Akinwole three started a 7-0 Maverick run that cut the lead to four with 1:38 left, part of a 13-2 spurt that ended the half as Omaha tied it 28-28 by the break.
 
Allick had 12 points and six rebounds out of the gate for Kansas City.
 
Inside the Second Half
Omaha opened 5-of-8 from the field, taking its largest lead of the night six minutes into the second half when a Wanjang Tut jumper pushed it to 40-33.
 
But the Mavericks went quiet from there, hitting just one field goal in the final 13 minutes, and a 15-3 run sealed the game for Kansas City.
