Mavericks To Take On Wildcats

The Omaha women's basketball team continues their four-game homestand Wednesday evening against the Kansas State Wildcats. The Mavericks are coming off a 87-57 win over the College of Saint Mary, their third straight win. Wednesday's game is set to tip-off at 5 p.m. at Baxter Arena and can be heard on 1180 The Zone with Casey Roehl on the call. Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.


Quick Hits

• Omaha won their third straight game Sunday afternoon at Baxter Arena 87-57 against cross-town College of Saint Mary. The Mavericks were led by four different Mavericks who scored in double-digits leading them to their best offensive output of the season.

Sam Mitchell scored a career-high 23 points for the Mavericks including four shots from deep. It was her second start of the season and most minutes she's played in a Maverick uniform (36:05).

Mariah Murdie joined Mitchell in double-digits with a season-high 18 points against the College of Saint Mary, she's scored in double-digits in all but two games this season and has led the Mavericks in rebounding in five of their seven games. Murdie also recorded her 750th point and 100th assist against the Flames, she is now the Mavericks active career leader in 10 different categories including points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks and games played.

• The Maverick offense has been running smoothly their last three games. They've reached at least 65 points and shot better than 45 percent from the field in that span, while dishing out double-digit assists in all three games and tying a season-high with six three pointers against the College of Saint Mary.

• Freshman Kennedi Grant came off the bench and scored in double-digits for the second straight game Sunday. After missing the Mavericks first four games due to injury she has set a career high in points in back-to-back games with 13 against Tennessee State and 17 against the College of Saint Mary.

• Omaha was tabbed eighth in the Summit League Preseason Poll. The Mavericks finished last season 7-13 overall with a 4-8 league finish. They earned the eighth seed in the Summit League Tournament last spring and advanced to the Championship game before falling to South Dakota.


Scouting the Kansas State Wildcats

• Kansas State is coming off a 65-44 loss to the top ranked team in the country, South Carolina. Junior center Ayoka Lee led the Wildcats with 14 points and six rebounds in that contest. Lee has been dominant for the Wildcats averaging a double-double so far this season with 23.2 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.

• Head coach Jeff Mittie is in his eighth season in charge of the Wildcats. Mittie is 589-334 in his head coaching career and 132-99 at K-State while guiding the Wildcats to the postseason five times.


All-Time Against Kansas State

Omaha and Kansas State have faced off seven times in their history with the Wildcats winning all seven contests. The Mavericks fell in the last meeting 66-59 on Dec. 12, 2020 in Manhattan, Kansas, Josie Filer and Murdie both scored 11 in that contest.
