League Play Opens Monday vs. St. Thomas

The Basics
Omaha opens Summit League action Monday hosting the league newcomer St. Thomas. The Mavericks finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a win vs. Hastings in the season opener, while the Tommies finished with five wins to start the year. The pair were picked in the bottom half of the preseason poll and look to pick up a couple wins before the holiday break and get a lead in the Summit League standings.

Quick Hits
• Omaha looks to snap a 10-game skid with a win in the league opener Monday. It would be the first win for the Mavericks since the season opener vs. Hastings.
Felix Lemetti scored a career-high 20 points at UNLV last week. He was 6-of-9 from three-point range. It marked the third straight game the junior guard put up at least 10 points. He scored 11 vs. A&M - Corpus Christi and 14 vs. Drake with four three-pointers.
Darrius Hughes extended his double-figure scoring streak to four games. Most recently, Hughes scored 10 at UNLV on 5-of-7 from the field. Prior to the road trip, he recorded a career-high 19 points vs. A&M - Corpus Christi, 15 points vs. Drake, and 12 vs. Eastern Washington.
• Hughes ranks sixth in the Summit League and leads the Mavericks shooting 51.4 percent from the field. His last four games have seen an average above 57 percent from the field.
• Omaha has used six starting lineups this season. Lemetti is the lone player to start every game this year. Lemetti, Nick Ferrarini, Hughes, Devin Evans, and Marco Smith have led Omaha in the last two games and earned a first half lead. A lineup of Lemetti, Frankie Fidler, Hughes, Evans, and Smith led the Mavericks to a 10-point first half lead vs. Drake, which was the first lead in the half since the home opener vs. Hastings.
• Omaha ranks fifth in the league with 2.9 blocks per game. Dylan Brougham leads the Mavericks with 0.8 blocks per game, which is tied eighth in the league. He notched a career-high four blocks at Montana.
• Head coach Derrin Hansen enters his 17th season at the helm. He has a 249-245 career record leading the Mavericks.
• The 2021-22 season is the 109th overall in program history and the 11th of the Mavericks' Division I era. All-time, the program is 1,203-1,332.

Scouting the St. Thomas Tommies
The Tommies are 5-6 to start their inaugural Division I season. They have wins vs. St. Francis College, Niagara, SIUE, Crown College, and Northland. Currently, St. Thomas ranks fourth in the league with 77.5 ppg. The Tommies are averaging 45.4 percent from the field and 39.9 percent from the arc, which ranks third and second, respectively.

Riley Miller leads the Tommies with 17.9 ppg. It is fourth on the Summit League leaderboards. He's scored double-figures in all but one game this season, including a nine-game streak to start the season. The run was highlighted by a 24-point season-high vs. SIUE.

Anders Nelson adds 16.4 ppg on 42.5 percent from the field. Parker Bjorklund is the final Tommie averaging over 10 points a game. He tallied 14.0 ppg and leads the team with 7.4 rpg.

John Tauer is in his 11th season at the helm and in his first Division I season. His overall record is 223-56.
