Mavericks Fall at UNLV Behind Lemetti's Career Night

OMAHA, Neb. – The Mavericks closed the non-conference portion of their schedule Wednesday night with the Rebels of UNLV. Despite a halftime lead and a career-high 23 points from Felix Lemetti, Omaha fell, 84-71. 
 
The Mavericks fall to 1-10 overall. 
 
Leaders for Omaha 
Lemetti scored a career-high 23 points Wednesday night on 7-of-10 from the field. All seven shots were from three-point range. He added five rebounds, two assists, and a steal on the night. Nick Ferrarini added 12 points for Omaha. He finished the night 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. 
 
Darrius Hughes was the third Maverick to hit 10 points. He was 5-of-7 from the field. Devin Evans led the Mavericks with eight rebounds, while Kyle Luedtke led with five assists and two blocks. 
 
Leaders for UNLV 
Bryce Hamilton scored a game-high 26 points for the Rebels. He was 8-of-21 from the field and 7-for-7 at the line. Hamilton added four boards, five assists, and two steals. Royce Hamm Jr posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 boards. 
 
Off the bench Donovan Williams scored 12 points, while Jordan McCabe recorded 11 as the final played to reach double-figures. 
 
Team Stats 
Both teams shot over 44 percent from the field. The Mavericks converted 45.3 percent of their attempts, while the Rebels shot 44.1 percent. The Mavericks were hot from the arc hitting a season-high 12 made threes. They finished shooting 41.4 percent from long range. 
 
Omaha's bench outscored UNLV's, 20-17. The Rebels held an advantage on points off turnovers, points in the paint, second chance points, and fast break points. 
 
Inside the First Half 
The Rebels took off on an 10-2 run with threes from Hamilton and Josh Baker early in the action. Lemetti's first three of the night broke the scoreless stretch and helped Omaha find its rhythm. Hughes and Lemetti scored on back-to-back possessions around the 15-minute mark to get the Mavericks within three of the Rebels. 
 
After getting within one on two straight buckets from Hughes, the Mavericks let the Rebels go on a 10-0 run to gain a double-digit lead. Under five minutes left in the first, Lemetti and Evans connected on threes. Evans tied the game for the first time with 4:04 left to play. He did it again just over a minute later, while Ferrarini managed to tie it 35-35 with 1:10 on the clock. Lemetti had the final look of the half and hit an off balanced three to beat the buzzer for a 38-35 lead at the break. 
 
Inside the Second Half 
The second half went back and forth to start seeing six lead changes in the first seven minutes. Dylan Brougham connected for a three with 11:43 remaining in the game to give Omaha its largest lead of the game at four points. Hamilton hit a pair of free throws just under the nine-minute mark to take a one-point edge and control of the game. 
 
Akol Arop cut the lead down to one at the 5:09 mark, but the Rebels kept composure and hit late free throws to go on and win 84-71. 
 
Noting Tonight's Game 
-Hughes scored double-figures for the fourth straight game. He finished 5-of-7 with 10 points. 
-Lemetti's 23 points marks a new career-high for the guard. He finished 7-of-10 from three, which was just one make away from tying the single-game high. Ferrarini was the third Maverick to reach it tonight with 12 points. 
 
Up Next 
Omaha opens Summit League play next week with a pair of games. First on the slate is St. Thomas on Monday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. The Mavericks then host the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.
