Mavericks To Host Northern Colorado

The Omaha women's basketball team will look to bounce back from a midweek loss, against Northern Colorado, Saturday at Baxter Arena. Quick Hits

• After winning three in a row, the Mavericks had their winning streak snapped by Kansas State Wednesday, falling 87-56.

Elena Pilakouta and Sam Mitchell led the way for the Mavericks in Wednesday's game with Pilakouta scoring 17 and hauling in eight rebounds and Mitchell scoring 15 points including three buckets from beyond the arc.

• Mitchell has scored in double digits in two consecutive games, draining at least three three-pointers in each game. She scored a career-high 23 points against the College of Saint Mary.

Mariah Murdie joined Mitchell in double-digits with a season-high 18 points against the College of Saint Mary on Dec. 5, she's scored in double-digits in five games this season and has led the Mavericks in rebounding in five of their eight games. Murdie also recorded her 750th point and 100th assist against the Flames, she is now the Mavericks active career leader in 10 different categories including points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks and games played.

• The Mavericks have controlled the paint in their last four games outscoring their opponent down low in all four games by an average margin of 16.5 points. They've also out-rebounded the opponent in three of those four games, averaging 41 rebounds per game in that span.

• Northern Colorado will be the final non-conference opponent of the regular season for the Mavericks. They will kick off Summit League play on the road at St. Thomas on December 20th followed by a road contest against Western Illinois December 22nd.

• Omaha was tabbed eighth in the Summit League Preseason Poll. The Mavericks finished last season 7-13 overall with a 4-8 league finish. They earned the eighth seed in the Summit League Tournament last spring and  advanced to the Championship game before falling to South Dakota.


Scouting the Northern Colorado Bears

• The Bears are coming off two losses to start Big Sky play, falling to Montana State 63-57 on December 2nd and 57-44 to Montana on December 4th. Sophomore Hannah Simental leads the Bears in scoring with 12.8 points-per-game, she has been solid from the three-point line draining threes at 38.9 percent mark.

• Head coach Kristen Mattio is in her first season in charge of the Bears. Mattio is 156-40 in her head coaching career having spent the last six seasons of her career as the head coach at West Texas A&M.


All-Time Against Northern Colorado

Omaha and Northern Colorado have faced off 36 times in their history with the Bears leading the series 25-11. The Mavericks won the last meeting between the two teams 66-64 on Nov. 29, 2020 in Greeley, Colorado, Omaha scored on a driving layup from Claire Killian with 1.1 seconds left to take the win.
