Five-Game Road Trip Came To An End At Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Omaha wrapped up a five-game trip at No. 3 Purdue Friday afternoon. The Boilermakers remain undefeated with a 97-40 win vs. the Mavericks.
 
The Mavericks fall to 1-5 overall and return to Baxter Arena next week for their home opener.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Darrius Hughes led the Mavericks with 13 points. He finished 6-of-9 from the field and 1-of-1 from the arc. He added a rebound and a steal in the action.
 
Kyle Luedtke grabbed a team-high five boards, while Wanjang Tut and Nick Ferrarini tallied two assists each. Akol Arop recorded Omaha's lone block, and Frankie Fiddler nabbed two steals.
 
Leaders for Purdue
Trevion Williams went for the double-double with 14 points and 10 boards for the Boilermakers, while Zach Edey led all-scorers with 20 points. He added six boards and a game-high three blocks.
 
Brandon Newman added 16 points and five rebounds. Jaden Ivey completed the double-digit efforts with 12 points.
 
Team Stats
Omaha took a season-high 69 field goal attempts but converted only 17 shooting 27 percent on the day. The Mavericks connected for five threes and finished 1-of-2 from the foul line.
 
Purdue shot 57.6 percent from the field and 52.9 from long range. They got 24 attempts at free throws and hit all but four from the line.
 
Inside the First Half
The Mavericks and Boilermakers traded baskets to start the game with Dylan Brougham connecting on an early three-pointer for a 3-2 Omaha lead. It wasn't long before Purdue managed to take ahold of the game with a Jaden Ivey three on the next possession. Purdue held the Mavericks without another point until Marco Smith hit a jumper at the 8:44 mark.
 
Darrius Hughes supplied a late spark for the Maverick offense. He battled through the paint for a dunk and then hit a jumper from the elbow on Omaha's next possession for the final points of the half. The Boilermakers took a 52-17 edge at the break.
 
Inside the Second Half
Hughes continued his scoring streak into the second half hitting the first jumper at the 19:03 mark. Fidler and Sam'i Roe then put their names on the board for Omaha with their first points of the game on back-to-back attempts.
 
Hughes recorded double-figures after scoring seven points in a two-minute stretch for Omaha, but the late spark wasn't enough to crack into the lead. Omaha falls 97-40.
 
Noting Tonight's Game
-Today's game was the conclusion of a five-game road trip for the Mavericks as they return home next week following the Olympic Curling Trials being held at Baxter Arena..
-The Boilermakers are the highest ranked opponent Omaha has seen in program history.
-Hughes hit double-figures for the first time this season with 13 points. He was just two shy of his career-high.
 
Up Next
Omaha returns to Baxter Arena for the first time since Feb. 20, 2021. The Mavericks will play six of the next seven games on their home court. They open home action Tuesday, Nov. 30 vs. SIUE. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
