Omaha Falls Short in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mavericks fall short to the Kansas City Roos in four sets. Limback led Omaha with her eighth double-double of the season. She recorded 17 kills and 21 digs.

Omaha moves to 19-9 overall and 16-2 in the Summit League heading into the tournament.
 
 
How It Happened
  • The Mavericks came out dominant in set one. Omaha took the first point with a kill from McKenna Ruch. They continued their lead to 8-5 after Marriah Buss put one away. Sadie Limback was able to find the back line and pushed Omaha to a 12-7 lead. Kansas City was forced into a timeout at 17-10 after Ruch denied the overpass. After a strong swing from Buss off the block the Mavericks advanced to a 23-17 lead. Omaha went on to win set one 25-18.
  • Omaha took a strong lead in the second set and after a couple kills from Limback followed by an ace they took a 7-4 lead. Kansas City pushed their way back in and Omaha took a timeout as they trailed 12-10. Omaha came out of the timeout and tied the game 12-12. The Roos continued to push their lead 16-13 and Omaha took its second timeout. A big block from Marshall and Clarkson put the Mavericks within three, trailing 21-18. Omaha dropped the second set 25-21.
  • Limback came out strong in the third set getting the first point and continuing to put the Mavericks up 3-2. Ruch and Buss each came in with kills of their own to put Omaha in a 10-9 lead. The Mavericks called their first timeout as Kansas City grabbed the lead 17-15. The game continued back and forth and after a block by Limback and Ruch Omaha was up 21-20. Set three ended in extra points as the Mavericks fell 26-24.
  • Set four started with another kill from Limback to put Omaha on the board first. Buss was able to power one off the block to put the Mavericks in the lead 9-5. The game was tied 12-12 when the Roos grabbed two points in a row and Omaha took a timeout. The Mavericks took their second timeout after Kansas City went on a 3-0 run coming out of the previous timeout. Rachel Fairbanks came in and used the block to get a kill and push the game 21-15, Mavericks trailing. Buss followed up with two kills in a row to make the score 23-17. Omaha was able to fight back from the deficit but ended up dropping set four 25-20.
 

Inside the Box
  • Limback led the way with 17 kills hitting a .429 and added 21 digs and four blocks.
  • Ruch tallied 11 kills and added five blocks.
  • Buss finished with 12 kills and two blocks.
  • Clarkson recorded 45 assists, and added 11 digs and three kills.
  • Jaiden Centeno led the defense with 25 digs.
 

Up Next
Omaha travels to Vermillion, S.D. for the Summit League Championship Tournament. They head in as the number one seed with a bye in the first round. The tournament is set for Thursday, Nov. 25 through Saturday, Nov. 27.
