Mavericks Come Out On Top Against South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Mavericks start their road stretch with a three-set win over South Dakota State. Sadie Limback led the team with 13 kills while Shayla McCormick followed right behind her with 12 kills.

The Mavericks improve to 17-8 overall and 14-1 in the Summit League.
 
 
How It Happened
  • The first set started with a block from Ruch and Buss putting Omaha on the board first. Omaha continued to push their lead to 10-4 and forced the Jackrabbits to take a timeout. The Mavericks came back out with two kills from Shayla McCormick, another from Marriah Buss and an ace from McCormick to force South Dakota State into another timeout at 14-5. The Jackrabbits were able to pick up two points this time before Omaha grabbed three in a row with a kill from Buss and two from McKenna Ruch. Omaha kept pushing until they had a 10-point lead making it 20-10. The Mavericks only allowed South Dakota State five more points in the set and won on a kill from Buss. Omaha takes set one 25-15.
  • Set two started with back and forth points between the Mavericks and the Jackrabbits. Omaha didn't pull away until a kill from Sadie Limback. This triggered a six-point run for the Mavericks putting them up 17-13. South Dakota State came back with one point before Omaha went on another run. Omaha gained another five points with kills from Limback, McCormick and an ace from Ruch. The Mavericks held South Dakota State to 17 points and ended set two 25-17 after a kill from Sami Clarkson.
  • The Mavericks fell to an early 7-3 deficit in the third set. Limback came in with the kill to start a six-point run for Omaha, putting them in the lead 9-7. Omaha went on to push from there with a block from Ruch and Buss, a kill from Buss and a kill from Marshall to put them up 16-10. South Dakota State called a timeout to try to make their way back into the game. The Jackrabbits put up three more points until they were stopped by three kills in a row by Omaha from Limback, Ruch and McCormick. This put Omaha in a 21-13 lead. The Jackrabbits only snagged two more points in the game before Omaha ended it 25-15.
 

Inside the Box
  • Limback notched 13 kills while hitting a .520 and also put up eight digs.
  • McCormick tallied 12 kills, nine digs and three blocks.
  • Ruch totaled five blocks and added seven kills. 
  • Buss added nine kills and two blocks.
  • Jaiden Centeno racked up 21 digs as libero.  
  • Clarkson recorded 37 assists, and added seven digs and two kills.
