Kametani, Astwood Score in Win at Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Despite an early goal from the Panthers, Hugo Kametani and Naz Astwood stepped up for the Mavericks netting two straight goals for Omaha. The Mavericks went on to beat Eastern Illinois 2-1 for their second league win of the season.

With the win, the Mavericks improve to 4-5-1 overall and 2-0-0 in Summit League action.

How It Happened
  • Both Omaha and Eastern Illinois forced a shot on target resulting in saves in the first ten minutes of action. The Panthers connected on their next attempt at the 11:52 mark on a strike from Davi Girardi giving EIU an early 1-0 edge.
  • The Mavericks took three more shots on goal over the next 12 minutes with Kametani netting his second attempt to tie the match in the 26th minute.
  • Omaha held a 3-1 shot on goal advantage in the remainder of the half, but the Panthers defense held strong, and the match was tied 1-1 at the half.
  • Ed Port put the pressure on just five minutes into the second half with Omaha's first attempt. Jonthan Burke made the stop for EIU. Kametani, Jokerst, and Junior Noutoua forced three more on target before Naz Astwood found the back of the net in the 77th minute for the lead. Jokerst recorded his second assist of the day.
  • Chad Hamler recorded a shot on goal in the 90t minute in a last-ditch effort for the Panthers, Nathanael Sallah made the stop and Omaha wins 2-1.
