OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks fell in an offensive battle Saturday night to Oral Roberts, 3-2. Despite Omaha tying the match twice, the Golden Eagles managed the game winner in the 70th minute to move to the top of the Summit League standings.
With the loss, Omaha falls to 4-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
How It Happened
- Oral Roberts scored in the fifth minute of action on its second shot attempt. Dante Brigida recorded his first of the night on a wide-open look. Reed Berry set him up with a cross into the left of the goal area for one touch and a goal.
- Hugo Kametani knotted the match 1-1 on the next shot attempt of the game. Tevin Rochester sent a ball from Omaha's defensive end of the field that was headed down by an ORU defender. Kametani gave chase with a breakaway into the box. He sent a high ball over the goalkeeper into the top left of the net for the goal.
- The tie didn't last long as Josselyn Petel found the back of the net once more for ORU. Beery tallied a second assist for Petel in the 37th minute. The Golden Eagles took a 2-1 edge into the break.
- On the first shot attempt of the second half, Mitch Hammer stuck for the Mavericks. Hammer was running up the middle of the field when Kenji Mboma Dem made a pass. Hammer used two touches and shot from the top of the box to tie the match one more time in the 65th minute, 2-2.
- Mikkel Fodstad nearly took the lead for Omaha in the 67th minute, but Miles Motakef made a diving save.
- The lead then swung in ORU's favor for a final time with Brigida's second goal of the match in the 70th minute.
- Luke Smith and Stevie Siy tallied shots on target before time expired, but the Golden Eagles held on for a 3-2 win.
Inside the Box
- The Mavericks held a slight advantage in shots, 9-8, and shots on goal, 6-4.
- Mboma Dem led Omaha with two shots, while seven other Mavericks tallied one.
- Kametani's goal marked his second of the season.
- Hammer's goal was his first of the year and fourth of his career.
- Nathanael Sallah made the start in goal. He falls to 3-3-0 in goal. He tallied one save.
