Mavericks Prepare For Western Illinois and St. Thomas Road Trip

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha women's soccer returns to action this week with a pair of conference matches on the road. First on the slate is a trip to Western Illinois on Friday, Oct. 8 for a 3 p.m. kickoff. Omaha then takes its first trip to St. Thomas on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. The Mavericks look to pick up their first points in the league standings after opening conference action last week vs. Denver.

Quick Kicks
  • The Mavericks opened league play last week hosting the reigning champions from Denver. Grace Ostergaard led the Omaha offense with two shots and one shot on goal.
  • Rachel Thigpen logged the final 45 minutes in goal for the Mavericks vs. Denver. She tallied three saves. 
  • Andrea Daves, Emilie Erland, and Regan Zimmers lead Omaha with eight shots this season. Erland has a team-leading five shots on goal.
  • Erland also has one of Omaha's three goals, which was the game winner in the season opener vs. Northern Iowa.

  • Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen still ranks among the top goalkeepers in the league. Her .883 goals against average ranks third in the league while her .833 save percentage sits second on the charts.

Scouting the Western Illinois Leathernecks
The Leathernecks are 7-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in league play. Last week in their opener, the Leathernecks fells to South Dakota State, 2-0, but rebounded with a win vs. South Dakota, 2-1. WIU also picked up wins this season vs. Northern Iowa and Illinois State in overtime. They opened the year with a 3-0 loss at Nebraska and a 6-0 loss at Milwaukee.The Leathernecks were tabbed to finish last in the preseason poll but have the third best overall record amongst Summit League teams.

Leathernecks to Watch
  • Amy Andrews leads Western Illinois and the Summit League with nine goals this season. She is averaging nearly one goal per match. Andrews also leads the league in shots on goal with 2.5 per match. Andrews adds two assists and sits with 20 points so far this season.
  • Bridget Schuler has another 10 points for the Leathernecks, She's scored four goals and tallied two assists on the year. Schuler netted two game winners so far this year.
  • Between the pipes, Isabel Navas Rodriguez has logged 982:19 minutes over 11 starts for the Leathernecks. She has 56 saves for a .747 save percentage. With two shutouts, Navas Rodriguez posts a 1.74 goals against average.

Scouting the St. Thomas Tommies
The Tommies are 2-7-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the league to start their first year of Division I competition. They earned their first win of the year at Chicago State downing the Cougars 2-0. St. Thomas tallied their second win and shutout of the season vs. Wyoming in St. Pail, Minnesota, 3-0. In the conference opening weekend last week, the Tommies fell in a pair of matches to South Dakota and South Dakota State.

Scouting the Tommies
  • Lexi Huber has a team-leading seven points with three goals and one assist this season. She adds nine shots and six shots on goal over 10 matches of action.
  • Abby Brantner leads the Tommies with 39 shots and 19 shots on goal. She has a goal and assist on the year for three points of 785 minutes logged.
  • Olivia Graupmann has logged every minute in goal for the Tommies this season. She's allowed 17 goals for a 1.62 goals against average. Graupmann has also tallied 45 saves for a .726 save percentage this season.
