Mavericks Fall in Overtime to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Wednesday's match between the Mavericks and Hoosiers was a defensive battle between the teams with Indiana prevailing. In the 110th minute, the Hoosiers put away the golden goal to win, 1-0.

With the loss, Omaha falls to 3-5-1 on the year.

How It Happened
  • Less than three minutes into the match, Malik Elmi fired off the first shot of the match, but it went off target. Indiana responded with their first shot at the 9:50 mark. Victor Bezerra forced Nathanel Sallah to make a stop low right.
  • Spencer Glass struck next for Indiana in the 27th minute, but Sallah made another stop for the Mavericks. A little over two minutes later, Hugo Kametani recorded Omaha's first shot on goal. He put the ball low left that was stopped by Roman Celentano.
  • Mikkel Fodstad and Fitzroy Cummings recorded back-to-back shots on goal in the final minutes of the half. Celentano recorded saves on both to keep things knotted 0-0 at the break.
  • In the second half, the Hoosiers managed the only shot on target in the 80th minute. Samuel Sarver kept Sallah active between the pipes for another save. Regulation ended scoreless to force overtime.
  • Neither team managed a shot in the first ten minutes of overtime play, but five minutes into the second overtime, Spencer Glass put a shot on target that was saved by Sallah. 
  • Kametani had a shot blocked for Omaha with three minutes left of action, but Indiana sealed the deal with a golden goal in the 110th minute from Bezerra to win the match 1-0.

Inside the Box
  • Kametani and Fodstad led Omaha with two shots each. 
  • Luke Smith, Elmi, Cummings, and Tevin Rochester added shots in the match for the Mavericks.
  • Indiana outshot Omaha 15-8 overall and 5-3 on goal.
  • Sallah logged a complete match between the pipes. His 110 minutes is a new career-high in minutes played. He notched four saves and falls to 2-2-0 in goal.
