Omaha Takes the Win in Denver

Denver, Colo. - The Mavericks take the win against Denver to keep the top spot in the Summit League. This marks Omaha's second win in Denver and first ever sweep of the regular season series. McKenna Ruch helped lead the Mavericks to the win with 18 kills, six blocks and three aces.

The Mavericks improve to 14-8 overall and 11-1 in the Summit League.
 
 
How It Happened
  • Omaha came out to start the set with two straight points after a kill from Marriah Buss. Denver answered with two points but a kill from McKenna Ruch stopped them and put Omaha in the lead 3-2. The game continued point for point until Denver went on a four-point run putting the game at 10-6 with Omaha trailing. Omaha pushed back with kills from Rylee Marshall and Buss. The game continued with points coming in short streaks from both sides until Omaha called a timeout after Denver puts their lead up to 17-12. Two kills from Marshall and one from Shayla McCormick put the Mavericks back within two points, 20-18 Mavericks still trailing. Denver went on to take the first set 25-21.
  • Ruch started set two with a big kill, putting Omaha on the board. The match went back and fourth until an ace from Ruch and a kill from Sadie Limback. Omaha continued to push the lead to 14-9 after a Denver timeout. Denver made their way back into the game tying it 19-19 after two three-point runs. The game went back and forth again with kills coming from both sides. Denver took the first game point lead but Omaha pulled it out to win set two 27-25.
  • The third set started with equal kills as well as attack errors from both sides. Omaha trailed 8-6 until a kill from Sami Clarkson and two from Buss put them in a 9-8 lead. Denver responded with three kills of their own taking the lead back. The Mavericks tied the game back up 14-14 after a Limback kill. Another kill from Limback and two aces from Ruch gave Omaha a four-point run and a 17-14 lead. Omaha only allowed Denver four more points before taking set three 25-18.
  • Omaha led two sets to one going into the fourth set. Denver got an early 5-2 lead to start the set off. Limback put one away to put the game to 5-3 but Denver came back with a four-point run to extend their lead to 9-3. Denver went on another run putting the score to 13-7 and pushes Omaha to take their second timeout early in the game. The Mavericks fought their way back into the set and after a kill from Ruch, Omaha trailed 21-18. Denver took the game point lead at 24-22 but a kill from Limback kept the set going. Omaha ended up falling in set three 25-23.
  • Set five started with a strong kill from Ruch. Fairbanks came into the set early and got a kill putting Omaha up 3-1. Limback notched a kill accompanied by two more from Fairbanks to keep the Omaha lead 6-3. Denver tied the game at 7-7 and after a couple errors from the Mavericks, took the lead 10-7. Omaha came back with kills from Ruch and Limback, and with an error from Denver they were back within one, 12-11. The two teams battled back and forth until a kill from Ruch put Omaha back into the lead 14-13. The game continued into extra points and the Mavericks ended the game with a kill from Marshall and an ace from Fairbanks. The Mavericks took set five 18-16 and the match.  


 
Inside the Box
  • Ruch led the way with 18 kills and a .625 hitting percentage. She also added six blocks and three aces.
  • Marshall put 11 kills and six total blocks. 
  • Buss notched 12 kills while McCormick added seven more and 12 digs.
  • Clarkson tallied 44 assists, nine digs, five blocks and added two kills.
  • Limback recorded another double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs. She also tallied four blocks.
