Omaha Blanks Kansas City in League Opener, 2-0

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks picked up a win in the Summit League opener with a 2-0 shutout vs. Kansas City. Dominik Danis netted his first career goal and the game winner in the 14th minute of action.

With the win, Omaha improves to 3-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in league play.

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks netted their first opportunity Saturday afternoon to go up 1-0 in the 14th minute. Fitzroy Cummings made a pass to the goal area where Danis connected using one touch to beat the goalkeeper low right.
  • Sixteen seconds later Kenji Mboma Dem nearly doubled the lead, but Cooper Clark tallied a save between the pipes for Kansas City.
  • At the 21:29 and 22:09 marks, Hugo Kametani and Connor Jokerst put shots on target. Clark managed to deflect both for a pair of saves. Kametani tallied the final shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the match remained 1-0 Omaha heading into the break.
  • Much like the first half, the Mavericks connected on their first strike of the half. Tevin Rochester sent a ball into the box. Jokerst gave chase and put a foot on it as he slid on the ground. The goal deflected off Clark into the net to put the Mavericks up 2-0 in the 47th minute.
  • Gustavo Murtha managed UMKC's first shot of the match at the 56:36 mark, but it went wide right. The Roos would take two more shots, while the Mavericks tallied three more shots before the match ended. All were off target, and Omaha won 2-0.
