Omaha Extends Win Streak to Three Matches, Snaps Denver's Nine-Match Win Streak

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks extended their win streak to three and snapped Denver's nine-game win streak Saturday afternoon. Omaha took the first two sets, dropped the third, and won the match with the fourth set. Sadie Limback finished with her second straight double-double recorded 16 kills and 16 digs.

The Mavericks improve to 6-7 overall and 3-0 in the Summit League.

How It Happened
  • Omaha opened the match with a 4-1 run to take an early lead over the visiting Denver Pioneers. Limback, Lakyn Graves, and Shayla McCormick combined for four kills in the run. Denver strung together four straight points to take its first lead of the game, 9-7. Three players tallied kills in the stretch. Out of an Omaha timeout, Marriah Buss led the Mavericks on a 4-1 run to regain the lead. She recorded a kill for every Maverick point for an 11-10 edge. The team's went point for point to close the second set. Limback tallied a kill to knot the game 21-21 late in the set. Denver responded tying it 22-22, but Kills from McCormick and Sami Clarkson clinched the set, 25-22.
  • The Mavericks fell behind early with a 4-2 run in Denver's favor to open the second set. Limback responded with back-to-back kills to spark a 8-2 Omaha run, which swung the lead 10-6 for the Mavericks. Erica Andrich and Brianna Green tallied three straight kills for the Pioneers to tie the match 15-15. Denver knotted the second set again 24-24 following three attack errors from Omaha. McCormick and Buss teamed up for the final two kills capturing a 26-24 set two win.
  • Denver opened the third set with five straight points finally finding a rhythm. The Mavericks chipped away at the lead with four consecutive kills from Rylee Marshal, Limback, and two from Buss. Those four kills tied the set 8-8. Omaha tallied three more points in the run to take an 11-8 edge. The Pioneers regained the lead with a 6-1 run. The teams went point for point until Denver tallied back-to-back kills from Green and Andrich to take a three-point lead, 18-15. The Pioneers recorded the final three points of the set to win 25-19.
  • To start the fourth set, Andrich sparked a 5-0 run. Andrich, B. Green, and H. Green combined for five kills taking a 9-6 edge. McCormick and Buss helped tie the set 9-9 with kills for the Mavericks. The set saw two more ties before a 3-0 run with kills from Limback and Buss helped separate the Mavericks and Pioneer, 17-13. Buss tallied two late kills for a 23-20 Omaha lead. The final two points came on Denver errors and Omaha took the fourth set 25-22.

Inside the Box
  • Omaha handed Denver its first set loss in six matches with a win in set one. The Pioneers hadn't lost a set since Sept. 9 vs. Air Force.
  • Limback recorded her second consecutive double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs. She also tallied four blocks.
  • Buss notched a new career-best 19 kills. She added four digs. 
  • McCormick was the third and final Maverick to recorded double figure kills with 12. She fell short of a double-double with nine digs.
  • Clarkson led the match with 45 assists, and she added three blocks and seven digs.
  • Jaiden Centeno recorded 29 digs, while Claire Mountjoy and Limback added 16 each.
