Mavericks Win Home Opener, 4-2

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis team picked up a 4-2 win over Barton Community College in its home opener on Friday at Miracle Hill.

"Today was a great opportunity for everyone to get a chance to play," said head coach Adam Summitt. "We had to throw some new doubles teams together due to injuries, and they all clicked really well the entire doubles match.

"Barton stepped up its game in singles and really made us work," Summitt added. "This is a good experience for the young players, learning how to face adversity and battle past it. I'm looking for more of the same Sunday."

The Mavericks took the doubles point by sweeping all three matches.  Natalie Lorentz and Lillian Tiemeyer won No. 1 doubles over Annunciata De-Souza and Natsuki Nishimura, 6-2.  The team of Madison Gallegos and Brooke Covington won at No. 2 over Alexandra Abyasova and Angelina Gnezdilova, 6-0; and Marie Kapelevich and Justine Linscott prevailed at No. 3 over Malena Hernandez and Hailey Vinroe, 6-3.

In the singles, the Mavericks got wins at No. 2, 5 and 6.  Lorentz beat De-Souza, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.  Addison Miller won the No. 5 match over Hernandez, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.  Linscott took the No. 6 match, beating Vinroe, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

The Mavericks return to the court on Sunday, Jan. 31 at Missouri.
