Weiss Delivers OT Winner Against Tigers, 3-2

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tyler Weiss scored his second goal of the game with .2 seconds remaining to give the No. 11 Omaha hockey team a 3-2 overtime win over Colorado College on Tuesday night.

The Mavericks never trailed in the game but saw the Tigers come back to tie the game twice before Weiss' heroics delivered their eighth win of the season.  Omaha is now 8-3-1 overall and 8-3-1-2-0 (1), good for third place in the NCHC.  The Tigers dipped to 3-9-2 overall and 3-9-2-0-2 (2), putting them in a tie with Miami for seventh.

Inside the First Period
For the second straight night, the two teams played a scoreless opening period.  The Tigers had three power plays, but the Mavericks helped their cause with eight shot blocks and nine saves from Austin Roden.

Inside the Second Period
The Tigers carried the play for most of the second period, but the Mavericks got the game's first goal.  Weiss and Taylor Ward broke in 2-on-1.  Weiss attempted a pass but the puck hit a CC defender and deflected past goalie Matt Vernon.  It was Weiss' third goal of the year.

The Tigers evened the game when Ben Copeland curled through the offensive zone and banked one off the post past Roden at 8:26.

Inside the Third Period
Kevin Conley restored Omaha's lead at 7:56, cruising through traffic and firing a shot past Vernon for his second goal of the series and fourth of the year.

But a little more than two minutes later, Logan Will beat Roden with a shot to the short side to knot the game at two.

Inside the Overtime
The teams traded chances in the extra frame with Roden making a highlight reel save on a chance in tight from Brian Yoon.

The winner came after Abate stole the puck, starting a 2-on-1 with Weiss.  Weiss tried to pass but the puck got blocked back to him so he jammed it underneath Vernon with .2 seconds left on the clock.

Roden was the busier of the two goalies in the game, making 34 saves as the Tigers outshot the Mavericks, 36-19.

The Mavericks will play their next six games at home beginning with a two-game series against No. 15/19 Denver on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 23-24.
