OMAHA, Neb. -- Former Omaha men's basketball guard
KJ Robinson has signed his first professional contract and will begin his playing career with Horsens Idræts Club in Horsens, Denmark, it was announced this week. Horsens IC plays in the Basketligaen, the highest-tier Danish professional basketball league.
"I'm excited to start my pro career in Denmark," Robinson said. "I'm fortunate and blessed to pursue this opportunity in a great country and a strong league. I'd like to thank all my coaches at Omaha for helping me and putting me in situations to succeed, as well as my teammates over the years for supporting me. I'll miss the family environment with everyone in Omaha."
A native of Blue Springs, Mo., Robinson was an All-Summit Honorable Mention selection in 2019-20. The Mavericks' leading scorer, he averaged 15.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game and became Omaha's 41st 1,000-point scorer in program history. He finished his senior season with 26 double-figure scoring performances and was part of two Maverick squads in his four-year career to reach the Summit League Championship Final.
Robinson is the third straight Omaha point guard to sign a pro contract, joining Devin Patterson (2013-16) and Tra-Deon Hollins (2015-17).
"We're happy that KJ has signed his first professional contract," head coach
Derrin Hansen said. "He worked hard for our program and is deserving of this opportunity at the next level. We're proud to see how KJ developed in four years as a Maverick and look forward to seeing him succeed as a pro overseas."
Robinson will join Horsens this fall after graduating with his bachelor's degree in business administration from Omaha in August.
