2019 Omaha Women's Soccer - Year in Review

The 2019 season for the Omaha Mavericks featured accolades for success in the classroom, Margaret LaVigne collecting All-Summit recognition, Jaden Thiem netting a golden goal on the road at UNI and a stingy Maverick defense that stifled opponents.

Team Academic Award

The Mavericks earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for their performance in the classroom in 2018-19.

A total of 990 soccer teams (344 men, 646 women) posted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earned the honor. The Mavericks received the award for the third straight season and 16th time overall in program history after notching a 3.59 team GPA.

Kaitlyn Guhl

Guhl's Academic Accolades

Sophomore Kaitlyn Guhl collected CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-Summit accolades for her performance in the classroom while carrying a 4.0 grade-point average and majoring in biomechanics.

Guhl was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Second Team and was one of three Summit League players to earn in the distinction in the fall. Her selection is the first CoSIDA Academic All-District honor for the Mavericks in the Tim Walters era.

The Houston, Texas, native was also one of 13 student-athletes named to the 2019 Summit League Women's Soccer Academic All-League Team. Guhl played in all 18 matches for Omaha, including 13 starts while helping anchor the Maverick defense that posted four shutouts and held opponents to one goal or less in 13 matches.

Margaret LaVigne

LaVigne's All-Summit Recognition

Sophomore Margaret LaVigne was named to the All-Summit Second Team in 2019 after earning a spot on the All-Summit Freshman Team last season.

The St. Louis, Mo., native totaled three points on the season after scoring a goal in the season opener vs. Illinois State and dishing out an assist in a 1-0 victory vs. Grand Canyon while logging a team-high 1,674 minutes in 18 starts.

Earlier this season, LaVigne was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Mavericks to a pair of shutout wins over Drake and Grand Canyon.

Jaden Thiem

Thiem's Golden Goal
Senior Jaden Thiem scored the first collegiate goal of her career with the game-winning score in Omaha's 2-1 win at UNI in double overtime.

In the 107th minute, Thiem launched a corner kick that wrapped around the traffic in the box and bounced its way into the back of the net to give the Mavericks their first victory of the 2019 campaign.

Brylie Meyer

Stingy Maverick Defense

The Omaha defense often stifled opponents in the 2019 season. The Mavericks garnered four shutouts on the season against Kansas State, Drake, Grand Canyon and North Dakota State.

Omaha limited opponents to one goal or less in 13 of the 18 matches on the season, including a stretch of nine consecutive matches where the Mavericks played to a 1-0 decision.
