No. 2 UND Earns Win on Mavericks' Senior Night

OMAHA, Neb. – No. 2 North Dakota bounced back from a Friday loss to earn a 5-0 win over the Omaha hockey team in the final game of the NCHC regular season for both teams.

The Mavericks are now 14-17-5 overall and finished the NCHC schedule with a record of 8-13-3-0/0, good for sixth place.  The Fighting Hawks are now 26-5-4 and earned first place in the conference with a record of 17-4-3-1/1.

North Dakota, still smarting from a 4-1 loss to the Mavericks on Friday, got all the goals it needed just 1:03 into the game when Westin Michaud fired a shot past goalie Austin Roden off a three-on-one rush.

Colton Poolman added a goal late in the opening period to make it 2-0 UND.

Jacob Bernard-Docker scored the first of two goals on the night at 2:48 of the second period.

He then followed a power play goal by Cole Smith with a power play goal of his own in the third to close the scoring.

Roden made a game-high 23 saves in his eighth start of the season while UND's Peter Thome made 17 saves.

The Mavericks will play at Denver in the first round of the NCHC Playoffs in a best-of-three series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if necessary, March 13-15.

Three stars:  1. Peter Thome/UND (17 saves); 2. Jacob Bernard-Docker/UND (2-1-3); 3. Cole Smith/UND (1-1-2)
