VERMILLION, S.D. – The Omaha track & field team picked up more lifetime best times and several top-eight finishes at the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet at South Dakota on Saturday.

"The word I told them today was 'focus'," said head coach Chris Richardson.  "Focus on the things that you can control and don't waste your time and energy on the things you can't. Some were able to do this, and some still need more practice.

"I'm happy to walk away the PR's that we did, but we'll always want more."

Freshman Carrie Simonson finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.33, a lifetime best.  Scarlett Hill was fifth with a time of 26.62.

Simonson also finished eighth in the long jump with a mark of 16-12.

Also in the long jump, Jaycee Schettler put a lifetime best with a mark of 15-10 ½.

Brekk Flax, fresh off her first career event win last week at Minnesota, was second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.90.

In the 800 meters, senior Anita Jenkins led a trio of Mavericks with a time of 2:24.98, good for ninth place.  Freshman Maya Nachtigal was 10th with a time of 2:26.09, and her classmate, Paige Blackford, ran 13th with a time of 2:30.23.  Both rookies had lifetime best runs.

In the distance events, Ivanna Uribe posted a lifetime best in the mile with a time of 5:30.26.

The distance medley team of Renata Valquier Chavez, Scarlett Hill, Blackford and Jenkins finished in a time of 13:00.53, good for second place.

Next week, the Mavericks return to action at the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, S.D. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.
