FARGO, N.D. – Down three with four seconds to go,
Ella Ogier's deep ball bounced off the rim as the Omaha women's basketball team dropped a 67-64 heartbreaker to North Dakota State on the road in the regular season finale.
The Mavericks conclude the regular season at 7-22 overall and 2-14 in league play. NDSU improves to 10-18 and 7-9 in Summit action. Omaha will now await its fate for The Summit League Tournament.
LEADERS FOR OMAHA
Ogier paced Omaha with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting with eight rebounds.
Mariah Murdie followed with 12 points and five rebounds on 4-of-8 shooting.
LEADERS FOR NDSU
A trio of Bison recorded double-digit scoring efforts in the team's win. Emily Dietz had 17 points and 11 rebounds, while the duo of Sofija Zivaljevic and Rylee Nudell tallied 13 points apiece.
TEAM STATS
The Mavericks shot 26-for-59 from the floor (44%) to NDSU's 25-55 (45%). Both teams shot nearly identically from beyond the arc as Omaha was 5-for-20 (25%) and the Bison were 4-of-15 (27%). Omaha went 7-for-9 at the charity stripe (78%), while NDSU was 13-for-18 (72%).
INSIDE THE FIRST HALF
Omaha came out hot to open the game and boosted itself to a 19-12 lead after one quarter of play. A 10-0 Bison run put them ahead 23-22 with 6:30 to go in the half. North Dakota Stat was able to use that momentum and carry a 34-29 lead going into the third quarter.
INSIDE THE SECOND HALF
Despite being down, Omaha kept itself in the game with monumental buckets late in the stretch. In the third with 4:33 to go down seven,
Claire Killian buried a deep three and cut into the Bison lead. After three quarters, the Mavericks trailed 46-42. It wouldn't be until the 5:17 mark in the final quarter when Ogier scored a fast-break layup and tied it at 53-all. A
Kia Wilson bucket gave the Mavericks their first lead of the second half, 60-59, but NDSU answered with a three.
Late in the game, Murdie hit a giant three and put Omaha back ahead with under two to play. With the scored tied at 64-all, North Dakota State was able to draw a foul and head to the line. After splitting the pair, the Bison got the offensive board with four seconds to go and got another shot at the line. Down three with four seconds to tick, Omaha called timeout and advanced the ball to midcourt. Out of the break, Ogier got a good look from downtown, but the ball hit off the rim and sealed the 67-64 win for the Bison.
