Late Rally Leads Mavericks to Split

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Omaha softball team scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to overcome a four-run deficit and earn a split on Friday night at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M.
 
The Mavericks won 7-6 in game one while the Aggies took game two, 10-4.
 
Omaha is 4-3 on the season while NMSU is now 4-2.

How It Happened
  • Emily Klosterman began the third inning with a double and later came around to score on an RBI single by Emma Dargy to score the game's first run.
  • The Aggies responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-1 advantage.
  • New Mexico State scored an insurance run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to stretch the lead to 5-1.
  • Down to their final three outs, the Mavericks hung six runs in the seventh to come back and re-take the lead at 7-5.
  • With one out, Klosterman smacked her first home run since 2018, this one a solo shot to left center to make it a 5-2 game.
  • Lynsey Tucker reached on a walk and Allison Helton singled to the pitcher before Dargy unleashed her fourth home run in as many games to tie the game at five.
  • Jamie White dropped a single into right field while Grace Boganowski entered the game to pinch-run for White.
  • Taylor Johnson moved Boganowski to second with Omaha's second infield single in the inning before Janae Cameron cleared the bases with a two-RBI double to right center.
  • Sydney Hampton re-entered the circle for the Mavericks in the seventh and only allowed a solo homer in the inning to clinch the series-opening 7-6 road victory.

  • Sydney Ross launched her first collegiate home run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-2.
  • The Aggies answered with a run in the bottom half of the fourth off an RBI groundout.
  • Ross lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Helton and Sedlak ripped an RBI double down the left field line to score Dargy and cut the Aggie lead to 8-4.
  • NMSU scored the final two runs of the game in the sixth on a two-run homer to clinch the 10-4 victory over the Mavericks.
