OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team makes its second trip to South Dakota State during the indoor season, participating in the SDSU Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.
Competition begins at 3 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday from the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.
The Mavericks picked up more lifetime best times and several top-eight finishes at their last meet, the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet at South Dakota on Feb. 8.
Freshman
Carrie Simonson finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.33, a lifetime best.
Scarlett Hill was fifth with a time of 26.62.
Simonson also finished eighth in the long jump with a mark of 16-12.
Also in the long jump,
Jaycee Schettler put a lifetime best with a mark of 15-10 ½.
Brekk Flax, fresh off her first career event win at Minnesota on Feb. 1, was second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.90.
In the 800 meters, senior
Anita Jenkins led a trio of Mavericks with a time of 2:24.98, good for ninth place. Freshman
Maya Nachtigal was 10th with a time of 2:26.09, and her classmate,
Paige Blackford, ran 13th with a time of 2:30.23. Both rookies had lifetime best runs.
In the distance events,
Ivanna Uribe posted a lifetime best in the mile with a time of 5:30.26.
Following action at SDSU, the Mavericks will compete closer to home at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 21, in Lincoln, Neb.
