Sundberg Delivers Win For Mavericks Over Miami, 2-1

OMAHA, Neb. – Martin Sundberg scored 17 seconds into overtime to give the Omaha hockey team a 2-1 win over Miami on Saturday afternoon.

Sundberg scored for the third straight game to deliver a gritty win for the Mavericks who improve to 2-1-0 to start the season.  Miami, playing its second game of the NCHC pod at Baxter Arena, dipped to 0-2-0.

INSIDE THE FIRST PERIOD
The Mavericks outshot the RedHawks 14-8, but each team had only a few good scoring opportunities.

Omaha lost captain Kevin Conley late in the period when he was given a major for contact to the head and a game misconduct.

INSIDE THE SECOND PERIOD
The Mavericks expertly killed off the RedHawks' five-minute power play and finally forged a lead on a power play of their own.

Matt Miller set up Brandon Scanlin for a shot from the top of the slot.  Chayse Primeau tipped it past goalie Ludvig Persson at 11:52 for his second goal of the season.

INSIDE THE THIRD PERIOD
Miami tied the game halfway through the third.  Scott Corbett knocked the puck past Isaiah Saville at 10:45 to set up the overtime.

INSIDE OVERTIME
The Mavericks wasted little time picking up the win.  Joey Abate carried the puck down the left wing, saucering a pass across to Sundberg who quickly flicked the puck to the top corner.

Saville played another strong game in the Omaha net, stopping 26 shots including 14 in the third period.

The Mavericks will finish the first week of the NCHC Pod by facing St. Cloud State on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 8:05 p.m.  Omaha will be the designated away team.
