Mavericks' Series with North Dakota Postponed

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Athletics announced today that its hockey games against North Dakota on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 31-Jan. 1, have been postponed.

The games have been rescheduled for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30 at Baxter Arena.

The decision was made in strict adherence to athletic department and NCHC COVID-19 protocols.

"We're disappointed that we won't be able to play this week, but we need to follow the advice of our doctors and medical staff to ensure the health and wellbeing of our student-athletes," said head coach Mike Gabinet.  "We have learned a lot about perseverance and patience during this season, and this is yet another challenge that we will work hard to overcome."

Fans who have purchased tickets for this week may use them on the rescheduled dates or redeem them for any remaining home games this season by emailing the Baxter Arena Ticket Office at unotickets@omavs.com.  All future dates are subject to ticket availability.

Yesterday, the NCHC announced further changes to its remaining schedule.

The biggest change, affecting all member schools, involves the reduction of both scheduled three-game series by one game.  The Mavericks were slated to host Denver in a three-series in January and then visit the Pioneers for a three-game set in February.  As a result of the changes, the Mavericks now will host Denver on Jan. 22 and 23 and then play games in the Mile High City on Feb. 12 and 13.

The change will reduce every team's schedule from 26 to 24 games.

The NCHC Athletic Council made the changes due to the challenges with COVID-19 testing during the three-game series weeks, mitigating risk to COVID-19 by lessening team travel and the desire to alleviate time away from each member institution's campus.
