Saville Leads Mavericks To 3-0 Win Over Tigers in Pod Finale

OMAHA, Neb. – Sophomore Isaiah Saville made 34 saves to backstop the No. 11 Omaha hockey team to a 3-0 win over Colorado College to conclude the NCHC Pod at Baxter Arena on Monday.

Jack Randl had two assists, and three different players scored goals to help the Mavericks improve to 6-3-1 overall and 6-3-1-1-0 (1), good for second place in the NCHC.  The Tigers fell to 2-4-2 overall and 2-4-2-0-1 (2) in the conference, putting them sixth.

INSIDE THE FIRST PERIOD
The Mavericks forged ahead in the final minute of the opening period.  While on the power play, Brandon Scanlin set up Kevin Conley from the right circle.  His one-timer beat goalie Dominic Basse for his second of the year at 19:29.

INSIDE THE SECOND PERIOD
The Mavericks stretched their lead off an offensive-zone faceoff.  Nolan Sullivan won the draw back to Randl whose shot into traffic was deflected home by Martin Sundberg.  It was his fifth goal of the year, tying him with Taylor Ward for the team lead.

INSIDE THE THIRD PERIOD
Omaha handled the Tigers' early push in the third and got a big boost from Saville who stopped Grant Cruikshank on a breakaway late in the period.

Tyler Weiss put the game away shortly thereafter when he fired home a wrist shot from the low slot for his second of the year at 15:44.

The Mavericks will have a week and a half off for the holiday break before returning to action with a two-game series against North Dakota on Dec. 31-Jan. 1 at Baxter Arena.
