OMAHA, Neb. – Miami rode a 30-save performance from freshman goaltender Ludvig Persson to a 1-0 win over the Omaha hockey team on Saturday night at Baxter Arena.
The Mavericks fell to 3-3-0 overall and 3-3-0-1-0 in the NCHC, keeping them fourth. Miami improved to 1-5-0 overall and 1-5-0-0-1-0 in the conference, putting it seventh.
INSIDE THE FIRST PERIOD
The two teams combined for just nine shots in the first period as neither team flinched from its determined defensive posture.
INSIDE THE SECOND PERIOD
The Mavericks outshot the Miami 11-5, but the RedHawks would head to the break after a goal from Hampus Rydqvist at 16:49.
INSIDE THE THIRD PERIOD
In the third, the Mavericks pressed for the equalizer, outshooting the RedHawks 15-2. But Persson made several key stops late and benefitted when the Mavericks hit a post in the closing minutes.
The Mavericks will finish the week on Sunday, Dec. 13 when they take on St. Cloud State at 8 p.m. Omaha is the designated home team for the game.
