Isaiah Saville

Sophomore | Goaltender | Anchorage, Alaska

Like a pitcher in baseball, there has always been a keen focus on the play of a goaltender in hockey. Sophomore Isaiah Saville took the attention in stride following a standout rookie season with the Omaha hockey team. Saville carried much of the load in net during the 2019-20 season, starting 28 games and earning a team-best 10 wins and a 2.85 goals-against average. He also took home NCHC weekly awards as Goaltender of the Week and Rookie of the Week (twice).

The native of Anchorage, Alaska was a fifth round draft pick of the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft so a larger stage would seem to beckon. Until that time, Saville, a business administration major, will focus on tending goal for the Mavericks and academics. He was named NCHC Academic All-Conference and a Distinguished Scholar Athlete last season. On or off the ice, there would seem to be no dimming the spotlight on Isaiah Saville.

Since he arrived on campus, Isaiah has been making progress in his development as a goalie. He is a player who is learning how to challenge himself and has untapped potential. He’s a huge part of our program, and I’m really excited to watch him play this season.

THREE QUESTIONS FOR ISAIAH SAVILLE
What does it mean to you to be a Maverick student-athlete?
Being a Maverick student athlete comes with a big responsibility. It does not mean you are just here for sports. It also means you are a role model and represent not only yourself but the whole athletic program and school wherever you are.

How has your experience been with your coaches at Omaha?
My experience with the coaches here at Omaha has been extraordinary. Our coaches are the most professional and put in an insane amount of work to ensure they are doing whatever they can do to help us succeed individually and collectively.

How has your experience as a student-athlete changed you as a person?
My experience as a student athlete has changed me a lot as a person. I am now more responsible and understand sacrificing some things to be successful in others. Managing school and sports is hard and takes a lot of time, but that is what comes with being a student-athlete.
