SOPHOMORE | DEFENSEMAN | HAMILTON, ONTARIO

It’s hard to miss Brandon Scanlin when he’s on the ice.  At 6-foot-4 and 213 pounds, Omaha’s sophomore is an imposing presence on the blue line.

As a rookie, Scanlin got noticed for more than his size.  The native of Hamilton, Ontario led all UNO defensemen in scoring with three goals and 11 assists for 14 points.  That total was good enough to tie him with two others for 13th in NCHC defenseman scoring and put him in a tie for seventh among all freshmen.  At the end of the season, Scanlin was recognized for his fine work by earning a spot on the NCHC All-Rookie Team.

A rookie no more, Scanlin will likely draw some of the toughest match ups against the Mavericks’ opponents this season.  That’s good news for the Mavericks…and bad news for the other guys.

Brandon has been a tremendous addition to our program on and off the ice. I was not surprised by his success last season. All you have to do is spend some time at our practices, and you will quickly realize his consistent effort in practice and dedication to daily improvement. He is a great example of ‘You play like you practice’.

THREE QUESTIONS FOR BRANDON SCANLIN
Describe the relationship you have with your teammates.
We are a family.  Despite the differences in hobbies we may have, I know every single one of them will have my back and it makes for having more than just teammates but brothers for life.

What does it mean to you to be a Maverick student-athlete?
It is a special feeling to put on a jersey with great history and respect towards the alumni. To be a part of the program that they built for us gives me great honor to only make it better for the future student-athletes.

What are your favorite things about living in the city of Omaha?
Everyone in Omaha is very friendly and makes being away from home easy. Aksarben and around campus has everything you need as a college student, and it is an awesome place to call home for at least the next four years.
