DES MOINES, Iowa – The Omaha women's tennis program finished the day with a 7-0 defeat to Iowa State for a weekend split.
"This was by far one of the most competitive meets we've been a part of," said director of tennis
Adam Summitt. "Even though we lost 7-0, every match was a dog fight. Some scores might look lopsided, but what isn't shown is how many deuce points we had and couldn't convert. I'm extremely proud of them for their effort. We are going to carry this on for the rest of the season."
Iowa State took the doubles point as
Madison Gallegos and
Ines Absisan fell 6-1 at No. 1 and
Marie Kapelevich and Natalie Loretnz fell 6-2 at No. 2.
In singles, the Cyclones won all six courts, but saw several three-set results. At No. 2, Gallegos fell to her opponent 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8), while Lorentz fell 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (6) at No. 3.
Omaha returns to action Friday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. against Nebraska-Kearney. The team follows up with a Saturday, Feb. 1, showdown against McPherson College at 5 p.m. Both matches are scheduled to take place at Miracle Hills Tennis Center. For more information, visit OMavs.com.
