Last Time Out
The Mavericks played to 1-1 and 2-2 ties with Denver last weekend at Baxter Arena. On Friday, they surrendered an early goal but tied the game early in the third on an unassisted shorthanded tally by freshman
Noah Prokop. Following two overtimes, the Pioneers secured the extra standings point with a shootout win in five rounds.
Isaiah Saville stopped 27 shots for Omaha.
The next night, the Mavericks built a 2-0 lead after one on goals by
Taylor Ward and
Tristan Keck. But DU got a power play goal early in the second and the tying goal with 13.8 seconds to go in the third. The Pioneers again picked up the extra standings point, this time in the 3-on-3 overtime. Saville made 45 saves.
The Coaches

Gabinet returned to Omaha after four seasons at NAIT in Edmonton, Alberta, the last as its head coach. That season, he led the Ooks to a 36-0-0 record and the ACAC Championship. He was named the conference Coach of the Year and became the first rookie head coach in Canadian college hockey to guide his team to an undefeated record.
Gabinet, a standout defenseman for the Mavericks from 2000-04, is assisted by
Dave Noel-Bernier (Omaha, 2001) and
Paul Jerrard (Lake Superior State, 1987).
