WICHITA, Kan. – The Omaha men's tennis team fell 6-1 in the season opener on Sunday afternoon at Wichita State.
 
The Mavericks drop to 0-1 on the season while the Shockers improve to 1-1.
 
Doubles Play
Wichita State took the first doubles match before the Mavericks tallied victories in the final two to earn the point in doubles action. Nathan Reekie and Matt Hulme teamed up to defeat the Shockers, 7-6 (6). Abdoul Ouattara and Davis Lawley clinched the point for Omaha after fighting off two match points to secure the victory, 7-6 (9).
 
Singles Play
Wichita State swept Omaha in singles action. Hugo Piles Ballester and Ouattara stretched their matches to the third set, but were handed losses in the final set.

"Today was a tough matchup to open our season with. Wichita State is a really good team and they've been historically solid. We started the day by playing the best doubles I have ever seen from the guys. They just believed and battled through so much. When singles play started, we pressed and forced too much, causing us to run out of gas. When that happens, we get the results we saw today.
