BEIJING -- The Iran National Basketball Team, helped by former Omaha forward Mike Rostampour, qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games Sunday at the FIBA World Cup.
Team Iran defeated the Philippines in the classification round, 95-75, clinching the automatic spot awarded to the tournament's top Asian finisher. Rostampour had three points, five rebounds and a steal in the game.
Rostampour is the fourth Maverick in school history to qualify for competition on the world's biggest stage, joining Omaha track & field athletes Pinar Saka (2012 Olympics; Turkey), Maja Mihalinec (2016 Olympics; Slovenia) and Taleah Williams (2016 Paralympics, USA).
A Maverick letterwinner from 2013-15, Rostampour is in his fifth year as a professional.
