NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior
Thirawat Chantrakantanond shot an even-par round of 71 to lead the Omaha men's golf team in the first round of the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate at Lipscomb on Monday.
The Mavericks are tied with USC Upstate for fourth in the 16-team tournament with a score of 292, the eighth-lowest team round of the season. Samford leads the rain-shortened 36-hole event with a score of 285. Bradley is second at 286, and Southern Mississippi is third at 289.
Chantrakantanond, starting on the 10th hole of the Richland Country Club, opened with two birdies and had three by the turn. He's tied for seventh in the field of 88 golfers. The round is a career best.
Witchayapat Sinsrang is second on the team and tied for 13th overall after shooting a one-over 72.
Nick Kagy is one stroke back. His card of 73 has him in a tie for 20th.
Sam Musch is tied for 45th, shooting 76. Teammate
Cole Christain rounded out the team scoring with a 77, putting him in a tie for 53rd.
The final round begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
