Mavericks Swept in South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. – The Omaha softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader to South Dakota at Nygaard Field on Saturday.  In the opener, the Mavericks fell 5-4 before dropping the nightcap 4-0 to the Coyotes.

Omaha and South Dakota wrap up the series tomorrow at 11 a.m.  Links to live stats and video are available on OMavs.com.

South Dakota 5, Omaha 4 (Game One)
Lexi Burkhardt went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to lead Omaha in the opener.  Emily Klosterman went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Hailey Bartz was 1-for-3 with a double and run scored.  Natalie Mostek added a 1-for-2 effort with a pair of RBI.

Starter Halley Jones allowed three runs on four hits and a walk with a strikeout over 2.2 innings.  Sydney Hampton (1-13) took the loss in relief.  Hampton allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts over 4.0 innings.

Lauren Eamiguel finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Coyotes.  Jessica Rogers went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.  Alyssa Fernandez went 2-for-2 with a run scored.  

Alexis Devers (9-9) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 7.0 innings to earn the win.

The Mavericks struck for a pair of runs in the top of the second to take the early lead.  Alexa Sedlak led off with a single and moved to third on Burkhardt's double.  A ground out by Lauren Lauvetz brought in Sedlak.  Klosterman hit an RBI double to center field to give Omaha a 2-0 lead.

South Dakota took the lead in the bottom of the third.  The Coyotes plated three runs on three hits to move ahead 3-2.

The Mavericks regained the lead in the top of the fourth.  Omaha put runners on second and third with one out.  Mostek hit a two-run single to right to put UNO back on top 4-3.

South Dakota rallied in the bottom of the seventh.  Eamiguel tied the game with a solo home run to open the inning.  Fernandez hit a one-out single and moved to second on a ground out.  Dustie Durham hit an RBI single up the middle to give USD the 5-4 win.

South Dakota 4, Omaha 0 (Game Two)
South Dakota's Dustie Durham (10-7) picked up the shutout victory in game two.  Durham struck out seven batters and allowed four hits over 7.0 innings.

Burkhardt, Lauvetz, Janae Cameron and Emma Dargy each had singles for Omaha.  Ryan Millington (2-11) allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks over 6.0 innings.

South Dakota scored single runs in the second and third for a 2-0 lead.  Dylan Underwood hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to complete the 4-0 win.
