OMAHA, Neb. - Seniors
Matt Dunn and
Alex Woodward picked up wins to lead Omaha over Illinois State 4-3 on Senior Day at Westside Tennis Courts. With the win, the Mavericks moved to 8-12 (1-2 Summit League) overall, while the Redbirds dropped to 11-9 (0-4).
Omaha got off to a strong start by taking the doubles point.
Hugo Piles Ballester and
Ethan Henry earned a 6-3 win at No. 3. Dunn and
Abdoul Ouattara clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Omaha continued its momentum into singles action. Piles Ballester was first off the court with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jorge Adair Barta Quispe on court three. Dunn put the Mavericks ahead 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Egehan Sertkaya. Illinois State got on the board with a straight-set win on court four.
Woodward clinched the match for the Mavericks with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Cameron Petersen on court six. The Redbirds took the final two matches on court to make the final 4-3.
Omaha returns to action tomorrow against North Dakota at Westside Courts. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
