Mavericks Finish Sixth in Summit Championship

NEWTON, Kan. – The Omaha men's golf team shot its lowest team score of the week to secure sixth place at the Summit League Championship on Monday.

The Mavericks carded rounds of 301 and 293 on the final day of play at Sand Creek Station Golf Club to finish with a 54-hole score of 898.  Denver took home the championship with a score of 874.  South Dakota and South Dakota State tied for second at 889.  The tournament was shortened to two days due to the forecast of inclement weather on Tuesday.  The teams played 36 holes on Monday.

Nick Kagy shot 77 in round two and then posted UNO's low round of the tournament, a one-under 71, in the third to tie with teammate Witchayapat Sinsrang for the team scoring lead at 223.  Starting on the 10th hole in round three, Kagy had four birdies on the outward nine and put up one more on the closing nine.

Sinsrang carded a score of 75 in round two and was a model of consistency in the final round, posting one birdie and one bogey to go along with 16 pars for a score of 72.  The two players finished in a tie for 12th in the 45-man field.

Cole Christain and Thirawat Chantrakantanond tied for third in team scoring and tied for 21st overall with matching totals of 226.  Chantrakantanond shot matching rounds of 74 while Christain carded rounds of 75 and 76.

Sam Musch finished the scoring with two rounds of 82 for a 54-hole total of 247.

The Mavericks had been picked to finish seventh in the preseason coaches' poll.
