NEWTON, Kan. – The Omaha men's golf team sits in seventh place after the first round of the Summit League Championship on Sunday.
The Mavericks shot a team score of 304 after the first 18 holes at the Sand Creek Station Golf Club. They are just six strokes out of fourth place with 36 holes to play.
Oral Roberts and South Dakota State are tied for the lead at 290. Denver is third at 292.
Cole Christain and
Nick Kagy are tied for the team scoring lead and are tied for 16th in the field of 45 golfers with matching scores of 75, three over par. Christain posted three birdies over the inward nine while Kagy was sharpest on the way out with three birdies in the first nine holes.
All-Summit League Second Team honoree
Witchayapat Sinsrang is one stroke back after shooting 76 in round one. He had birdies on the final two holes of the day, rebounding from the previous three holes during which he shot four over par. Sinsrang is tied for 22nd.
Thirawat Chantrakantanond is fourth on the team and tied for 27th overall with a score of 78 while
Sam Musch rounded out the scoring with a card of 83 that has him tied for 36th.
Due to expected bad weather in Newton on Tuesday, the tournament will conclude on Monday with the final two rounds. Play will begin at 8 a.m. on holes one and nine.
