FARGO, N.D. – The Omaha softball team lost 15-0 in five innings to North Dakota State on Saturday morning at Tharaldson Park.
Three North Dakota State pitchers combined to strikeout three Maverick batters and held Omaha to one hit. Omaha starter
Ryanne Millington (2-13) allowed six runs on five hits and two walks in one inning of work.
Halley Jones gave up nine runs (five earned) on 10 hits and four walks over three innings.
After a leadoff walk, North Dakota State hit back-to-back home runs to take a 3-0 lead. The Bison added two more runs on a single and a two-run homer. NDSU added another run to make it 6-0 after an inning of play.
North Dakota State added five runs on four hits and two errors in the bottom of the second.
Omaha had its best scoring chance in the top of the third.
Emily Klosterman led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a
Hailey Bartz's fly out. NDSU's Kara O'Byrne settled down and recorded the final two outs.
NDSU extended the lead to 15-0 in the third inning. Morgan Olson allowed a walk in the top of the fifth before retiring the final two Omaha batters to end the game via the run rule.
Omaha concludes its regular season next weekend with a three-game series against Western Illinois. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 4, at noon, followed by a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Between games on Saturday, Omaha will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the softball program by recognizing former players between games. Sunday serves as the senior game for the Mavericks.
