Hahn, Jackson Garner First-Team All-Summit Accolades

OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior duo Zach Jackson and Mitch Hahn collected first-team All-Summit accolades, and head coach Derrin Hansen was named 2019 Summit League Coach of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.

Jackson, a native of Wichita, Kan., picks up the second All-Summit award of his career after earning second-team honors as a junior. In his senior season, Jackson has averaged 18.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 0.8 steals per game while shooting .496 from the field, .422 from 3-point range and .765 at the charity stripe.

Jackson ranks fourth in the league for scoring (18.3), total points (530), field goals made (186) and free throws made (104). He has scored in double figures in all but two games, including 13 performances with 20+ points, and was named Summit League Player of the Week on Nov. 26 and Feb. 18.

Jackson opened his senior campaign by joining the 1,000-Point Club, and in the final week of the regular season, he became just the second Maverick to pass 1,500 points and 500 rebounds in a career.

"This is a much-deserved first-team all-league selection for Zach," Hansen said. "Not only did he have a repeat performance of a great junior season, but he has also emerged as one of our program's leaders, which was a huge part of elevating our team in the standings this year.

"Zach's work ethic and selflessness are extremely evident, as he's one of only two players with 1,500 points and 500 rebounds, which is no easy feat. He was methodical in how he reached those numbers and is a great example for future Mavericks of what hard work can accomplish."

Hahn, who hails from Fremont, Neb., earns his first all-league award after averaging 13.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.5 steals per game and shooting .473 from the floor, .383 from deep and .765 at the line. He ranks fifth in the league for defensive rebounds (152), eighth for rebounds per game (6.2) and total rebounds (180), 12th for total points (390) and 15th for points per game (13.4). In league play, Hahn shot .486 from deep and was the eighth-best scorer with 16.8 points per game.

Hahn has scored in double figures in 21 contests, including 16 straight from Dec. 19 to Feb. 20. He owns six efforts of 20+ points and four double-doubles on the year. Hahn was selected Summit League Player of the Week on Dec. 17 and March 4.

"We're all pleased for Mitch's first-team selection this year," Hansen said. "After a promising sophomore season, he worked through an injury-plagued junior year to not only show his progress on the floor but also take on a vital role of being a team leader in his senior campaign.

"Everyone is aware of Mitch's late-game heroics this year, but those just accentuated the consistency he has shown against league competition. This is a tremendous honor that is representative of the senior year Mitch has had."

Hansen garners Coach of the Year recognition after guiding Omaha to a regular-season record of 19-10 (13-3 Summit League). The Mavericks, who were voted eighth in the league's preseason coaches' poll, finished second in the conference standings – their highest finish since joining the league. Omaha's 19 wins this year were a Division I program record.

"It's an honor to receive this award in a league that has so many incredible coaches," Hansen said. "It really reflects the hard work our coaches and staff have put in to support our program. Our staff attracts quality student-athletes to Omaha and not only develops their basketball skills but also mentors them into fine young adults."

Since Omaha joined the Summit League in 2012-13, a total of 11 Mavericks have combined for 14 All-Summit awards.

Omaha heads to the Summit League Men's Basketball Championship this weekend as the tournament's No. 2 seed. The Mavericks face No. 7 seed North Dakota on Saturday, March 9 in the quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m. at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The game will be broadcast on Midco and ESPN+, and Gary Sharp will have the radio call on 1290 KOIL.
